Garage Sale

I had the garage sale. Before I begin detailing how the days went, I should mention that I'm an idiot. I never bothered to check the signs once I'd put them up. The 2 most critical signs were either knocked down or fell over after the first day and I'd bet that's why I had such a bad Sunday and Monday.

Saturday went swimmingly. I took in almost $300 and got rid of a ton of crap. The garage is much emptier. Sunday and Monday I took in a total of $50, but at least I got to read a lot. I like when people haggle, but I dislike it when they're incredibly cheap about it. Don't ask me to plug in the stereo or lamp if you have no intention of buying it. If I tell you something is $5 and you counter with 50 cents, when I respond with $3, don't just repeat 50 cents or you're going to leave without it and I won't haggle with you on other things.

Late in the day on Saturday a strange group showed up. A mom, her 2 daughters in their early 20s and her son in his teens. The son was wearing a hat like Meg's in Family Guy and was surly. He went to sit in the car before too long. The mom was frightening. She was wearing a blouse that came to the bottom of her shorts, was nearly see-through and showed off way too much of her enormous cleavage. The daughters were better dressed, cute really, and one was wearing a gigantic owl pendant she'd found at a thrift store. They liked SF and decent music. Everyone in the family had tattoos. The nicest part was that they spent around $50.

I sold all the parody magazines I had from the 1950s. No-one so much as looked at the others, so they all go into the recycling bin tonight. The one magazine I kind of wish I'd kept had a picture of the Beatles on the cover, but the picture had been modified so they were all bald. It was amazing how differet they looked. It was an issue of Help!, I think.

Friday I had two strange garage sale related occurances. The first was a "DJ" who'd looked up my phone # on-line from my address and called wanting to know if I had any CDs for sale. I'd forgotten there were some in there, so I told him no. He showed up anyway, yelled at me for telling him no and then proceeded to tell me they were too expensive and that's why no-one was buying them. (People were, but that's a differnet story) He told me if I made him a deal, like $1 each, he'd take them all. Rather, he'd take all the ones that he deemed unscratched. He also told me that if I didn't, I'd be stuck with them for years. I told him my keeping them didn't cost me anything and made him a far less generous offer than I would have if he hadn't been an idiot. He didn't buy them.

Also on Friday there was a knock at my door at around 8 PM. Someone said he was reading the paper and noticed my ad. He was on his way home from a friend's funeral and was wondering if I had any items on a list he had with him. I looked and told him no. I'm guesing he was really close to this friend. "I can't believe he's dead! I wonder if they have any model trains..."

I'd like to conclude with an apology to my CoH teammates. Sunday night I had a chance to go to a movie with people and wanted to get out of the house for a bit. Last night was aidosaur's first night back from school and kaisilverwolf was over and inochinoakari was actually home in time to go to dinner. We ended up at Hunan Taste in Denville (not Mountain Lakes) and it was very delicious. hagbardc, we've always talked about going there, we should actually do so. Again, I'm sorry I missed CoHing and am sorry if I screwed up any plans.
