I have an unpleasant physical annoyance at the moment and writing about it will help me deal with it.
When I was packing and moving back in February, I managed to drop some heavy things on both of my feet. These heavy things struck primarily the big toe of each foot and thankfully, no bones were broken and no real bruises resulted. Unfortunately, it appears the nail on each of my big toes was cracked horizontally across the toe.
The nail on the left foot simply popped up like it was on a hinge around 1/2 way down the nail one day. Strangely, it was only the top half of the nail, as though it were made of formica. This was fortunate as it left the nailbed protected as the full nail grew back in. That's almost completed at this point.
The nail on the right foot cracked much further down the toe, quite near the base, and cracked all the way through, but not all the way across. It popped up a few weeks ago, but has hung on tenuously ever since. Around a week ago, I shifted my foot under the covers when I woke breifly during the night, and I heard and felt the nail crack almost the rest of the way across. Now I wear a sock on that foot at night and, while I can occasionally feel it raise up from the nail bed, I can push it back without pain. I'd like to keep it there as long as I can 'cause when it finally detaches the rest of the way, I'll have to keep it covered with gauze until it grows most of the way back and that can take a long time.
Wish me luck!
