emilytheslayer and I went to NJ on Saturday and stayed in Parsippany. aidosaur visited briefly with her young man and we made arrangements to meet the following morning for the trip to the air show.
Sunday morning, we headed over to hagbardc's to meet up with him, Stephanie, Pete and Pete's kids Matt and Colin (4.5 & 2ish respectively). I'd brought most of (one HD goes to ioianthe and the DvD player goes to jeffwik) my old computer for Pete, but hagbardc had forgotten to tell me Pete had just purchased a new one, so hagbardc kept mine.
Every year on the drive out, we pass an exterminator and they have a marquee sign on their building announcing the Pest of the Month. This year we made a betting pool, each picking a pest. I took aphids, hagbardc took termites, others took other bugs. hagbardc won (the bastard) and gained $30.
The airshow was fun, if rainy. Pete and I immediately put on copious amounts of sunblock, referencing the Lobstermen year at the airshow. We saw a number of cool planes, including a Catalina (which hadn't been there in previous years) and we also saw a tank! hagbardc was as delighted as can be that there was a WWII tank there. It worked too! We got to see the turret traverse and it fired some blanks. It wasn't completely authentic as it had a Soviet diesel engine in a Panzer hull, but it was still extremely cool.
I managed to strain my neck a bit as I carried Matt on my shoulders for much of the airshow.
After the airshow, we went to Trains and Lanes off Rt. 33. It is a large hobby store and we raced 1950s style slot cars for awhile. I say "raced", but mostly we tried to keep them on the track and failed. I will find out why.
The drive home was longer than I expected and quite rainy. We'd have reached home by around 9:30, but some old friends of emilytheslayer were in town just for the night (and part of today) and she wanted me to meet them, so we met them and jeffwik at the Boston Beer Works in the North End. Even had I gone straight home, I'd have missed the CoH task force and I'd likely have wanted to go straight to bed even then. I apologize for not giving you the full explanation last night head58, but it would have been a long explanation and I was exhausted.
The worst part was that when I was backing into my driveway yesterday, I ran over a glass coke bottle and it punctured my tire. I got out of the car and heard SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. The right front tire is now FLAT and I need a new one. I may have to get 4 new ones. We'll see. I don't have good luck with tires.
In short, I had great fun, but am now aching all over and want nothing more than sleep.
More stories may follow if I can think of any or feel the need to expand on these.
