Or rather those of you who ride the subway. I don't know it you're all as stupid as those who ride the E train on the green line, but I'll assume you are. I'm generous like that. I know change is scary for some of you. I know you're used to the old cars on the train and these new ones that have more lower-slung space are odd and frightening to you. I'm sure that the section between the two doors that hinges on both sides is absolutely terrifying, but it is there for a reason. That reason is for you to stand or sit in it on the way to the next stop.
It is not decorative. It is not a place to put people who are being punished for something. When you see people getting on behind you, move into that spot instead of stopping just before the accordian curtains and hanging on for dear life. You should especially move in there when you hear the conductor say "Move ALL the way into the train please." You are not the only one riding. If that's what you want, take a taxi.
Do not be afraid. It is not made of lava.
