I've been unpacking books. Naturally books from these boxes have been making their way into my "to read" piles. I'm currently reading an old anthology published in 1968, meaning the stories are primarily from the 40s and 50s. It is a "concept anthology" called Apeman, Spaceman and contains SF stories, poems, science articles and even a Peanuts comic. Some of the science is wretched or embarassing, but the SF is still mostly fun. I'm reading a story now by an author I love: H. Beam Piper, and I came across a line I wanted to share.

The story is about xeno-archaeology and while the main story is about trying to translate alien languages without a rosetta stone, they're in the middle of excavating a Martian city.

Remember, this story is originally from 1957

Hubert Penrose was shouldering something that looked like a surrealist machine gun but which was really a nuclear-electric jackhammer.
