They really didn't think it through, had to restart, had tons of cheaters, couldn't figure out how to deal with it and are now ending the game almost 2 months early.
Originally, you were supposed to buy streets and make moey to buy more with the goal of having the largest property empire. Then they decided you can only have 35 streets or you start losing money. They accomplished this through a bizarre tax system that starts with your 6th street. The game was buggy throughout, they only fixed the sell a building feature last week. There were server problems, login problems, gameplay problems, display problems and rule problems.
It was supposed to last until Jan 31, today they announced it is ending Dec 9. I'd kept playing 'cause it was marginally fun. I was testing a few aspects of the game more than anything else. I was hoping they'd get it working properly. Instead they seem to have simply given up.
Typical Hasbro though, put out a crap product and give up. Shame they own WotC and Avalon Hill.
