The weekend was quite pleasant. We arrived in MA rather late Friday and managed to get a hotel room at the first place we tried. A place called Park Inn on Rt. 33 in Chicopee. Cheap, but a dump. The room was $69 for the night, but the bed was tiny, the towels were sandpaper-rough as was the bedspread. The hall reeked of smoke and the pillows were uncomfortable. Fortunately, they only had an available room for that one night and we had to switch hotels for Saturday night.
Saturday day was much fun. We watched Laurel Parade and I took around 163 pictures. I think around 1/4 to 1/3 may need to be deleted due to unfortunate zooming errors, but ah well. I will make the pictures that survive the purge available to those that ask or have asked. After the parade, and the congratulating of those I could find that I knew, urnesha and I went to NoHo to eat with head58 and aliwings at a BBQ place called Smokin' Lil's. The food was quite, quite good and Urnesha had pulled pork for the first time; horseradish sauce for the first time too, I believe. We were treated to an unexpected added bonus of the company of cell23, chirping_monkey and their wee one [lj user of the future=supergirl]. After food, we went to Space Crime and to Modern Myth. Money was spent and a good time was had by all.
On the way to this excursion, I decided to try my luck at getting another hotel room and stopped at the Best Western in NoHo. They had a room! There'd been a cancellation and I could have my choice of a room with a heart shaped jacizzi or a square one. This room was considerably more expensive, but had a very comfortable bed, a fridge, lovely towels, pillows and sheets and other amenities such as the aforementioned jacuzzi. I sadly didn't have time to use it, but I did manage to push the wrong button and sent jets of water spurting across the room and wet the bed.
After the food and fun or buying things, I dropped Urnesha off at the room for her 6 hour nap and I went back to the school to assist with an impening crisis. kaisilverwolf had no way to get her belongings home or store them locally. I went to the U-Haul on 33 where we'd gotten inochinoakari's trailer when she moved and managed to secure a 6'x12' trailer on graduation weekend. You always have to go to these places in person if you want accurate information.
I then returned to the hotel for some reading and relaxing before returning to campus with Urnesha for Canoe Sing and a party. Canoe Sing was nice, but short and the party was skipped. Sleep that night was wonderful, but inadequate to prepare us for the following day's activities.
We watched the graduation on a big screen and walked to the gym after for congratulating the new grads. After giving Kai a hug and a congratualtions and snapping her picture, I left her to find her family and went to pick up the trailer. Having brought the trailer back to campus, there were the usual problems of parking, packing and loading. We started at around 2:30 and finished at around 6:00. By this time we'd lost Urnesha to her professor-man. After several attempts we managed to get her to the car and left at around 6:20.
Because of the rain and reduced speed from towing a trailer, we didn't arrive at Kai's place until 12:40 AM. With some shenannigans (including rock "chocks" and my car jack) we managed to uncouple the trailer and continue to my home, arriving at around 1:30 AM. Naturally, after this relaxing day we slept in to the late hour of 5:40 AM. I dropped Urnesha at the train and continued here, arriving at 7:30.
After work today, I'll be picking up and returning the trailer. I hope Kai gets to sleep late today as she could use the rest and would love to break the cycle of waking up early.
The only actually bad thing to report is that I somehow managed to injure my left hand. It feels weird generally, but specifically my index finger causes me pain if I press on anything with it, like if I'm scratching an itch. I hope this is fixed soon.
